Dr. Pawelski graduated from Dickinson College with a physics major and minors in chemistry, math, and Russian. After medical school at the University of Pittsburgh (’86), she completed an Internal Medicine residency at Montefiore Hospital (’89), followed by dermatology residency at Duke University (’92). She returned to Pittsburgh and helped found the dermatology division for Penn Group Medical Associates, “the HealthAmerica doctors.” She went on to work with Dr. Nancy S. Nieland-Fisher in 1997, and then with Dr. Jack Kalmanson in 1999. Dr. Kalmanson transitioned his practice to Dr. Pawelski in 2004.
Dr. Pawelski is married to St. Paul Cathedral organist Kenneth Danchik. They have three children. Solo medical practice takes up most of her time, but in her spare time Dr. Lisa loves reading. At the top of her list are Harry Potter, British police “procedurals,” and mysteries; they help polish her detective skills as a physician. Gentle-water kayaking, off-road bicycling, and swimming are her exercise. A former member of the Duke Collegium Musicum and the Pittsburgh Camerata, she now enjoys singing with the St. Paul Cathedral Choir, playing with the Cathedral Ringers, and listening to the music of Trout Fishing in America.
